I have a couple of questions about the firewire expansion board for my Motif xf8. You have the option of selecting ‘Use External Instrument Plug-in’ but, let’s bypass operation t for now. I do not know if I have a PCI card in my laptop. Or since that USB and firewire use different speeds, will it not work? Search trhough the Logic forum. I own a Toshiba Qoismo X I would like to make probably a 8-track song to track song.

Yes I will be recording vocals. I will use Fruity Loops studio and use the plugin in that also. Because the Motif XF is hardware when it renders its audio it is done old school, in real time!
You monitor via a “virtual” audio lane which allows you to process the signal with plug-in effects prior to rendering the signal as firrwire permanent real audio track. It depends on your goal.
However, when you are working with an external DAW, like Cubase for example, you may want to assign Parts to their own discreet audio bus. Things have changed somewhat on Logic’s end based upon whether you are setting up external MIDI tracks or external instrument tracks the latter being a type of software instrument track.
If I must use the Firewire cable, I have another question. That is what we will cover here. A vehicle for moving one or more passengers from point A to point B via a specific route. It may at times be convenient for you to isolate a PART on its own bus, or you may decide to send several PARTS together on a specific bus – the goal so you can record them to their own track.
If you are going to record the XS’ audio, it’s a no brainer for me: Also, you are saying I should, for the best compatibility, get a newer version of Cubase such as 6 or 7?
Motif XF Routing PARTS via FireWire
We recommend you experiment with each routing situation so later you can make a decision about what works for you. I was able to finally get the information and get everything configured. I have a FW16E firewire card installed in the Motif and is capable of sending multiple channels or tracks at the same time.
Just remember, these firesire made a few years ago. I do not know if I have a PCI card in my laptop. If there is something specific that you are not getting, I’ll answer any question but, lacking that, every single step is detailed explicitly in that tutorial I own a Toshiba Qoismo X Create number of desired tracks. Or since that USB and firewire use different speeds, will it not work?
